Beaufort NC

Posted by on November 15, 2012

We are in Beaufort NC! We departed Oriental NC early this morning, crossed the Neuse River, headed into Adams Creek and the ICW. The trip was only 25 miles and we were on a mooring by noon.

It was a cold dreary day and not much in the way of new scenery. Once we got a few miles inside Adams Creek we were hit with a strong current in the opposite direction. Adams Creek and the ICW, the ripples on the water are not from wind it’s from current:

Uneventful trip down the ICW and into Beaufort. Beaufort Bridge:

Beaufort is really nice, lots of shops and restaurants. The weather is nasty so the pictures are worse than usual. Front Street Beaufort:

Boardwalk:

We were trying to get the anchor to set (a few times) when a man on an adjacent boat urged us to take their mooring, so we are on a mooring. Turns out he is/was from Brunswick. Anchorage:

One of the first things we do when we get to a new location is find potable water and a dumpster. After finding the town dinghy dock we found the trash and water. As we walked up to take a closer look I heard faint music, then I found a cell phone plugged in, charging, laying in the bushes. I just thought it was odd that someone would plug in their cell phone and leave it in the bushes…

Trash, water, cell phone plugged into a light pole, nobody around:

Cell phone in a bag on the ground, ringing…

There are oysters everywhere but not that appetizing:

There are wild horses roaming the barrier islands:

Horse on shore, sunken boat in the mooring field:

Anchorage:

Cold but happy to be here:

We are planning to depart for Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach on Saturday morning, subject to change.

I checked the Oriental web cam and found you had left as planned. Did you get any shrimp in Oriental. If not just about any place will have them now. Eat plenty of them as they are so good. I see the next few days are looking gloomy. Hopefully the weat6her will clear soon and running outside will make for a nice passage. Take care, love ya.

I’m pretty sure “cold” is a relative term…Remember, a bad day boating is better than ANY day at work!! Have a great time!!
