Three Days and Counting

Posted by on December 3, 2013

We are in the final stretch toward splash down! Everything is going well…now. The rain has subsided so progress is being made. Today I was able to reassemble the prop shaft seal, install the prop and shaft zincs, sand the entire teak toe rail, sand the bottom, put a final coat of paint on the boot stripe, and get half the bottom painted. It was a very long but productive day.

New Mil-Spec prop zinc with new screws:

1 prop zinc

New shaft zinc. I painted the shaft with two part epoxy primer as well. No, not under the zinc:

2 shaft zinc

Then antifouling bottom paint on everything:

3 bottom paint

I was able to get a final coat of paint on the stripe, it looks great. Tomorrow I will peel off the blue tape and finish the bottom paint. She will be ready to launch Friday morning:

4 stripe and bottom paint

On another note…We are able to watch rocket launches right from our back yard. SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket tonight and it was a really nice show, for about 20 seconds. Pictures taken with my phone so not the greatest:

I think the rocket may have separated at this point…not sure:

It was a good show…
