Batteries

Posted by on July 15, 2011

In your home you just flick a switch and power from the local power grid activates whatever you need, we don’t have that luxury. Our power, which we need to run almost everything on the boat, will come from batteries. We want lots of power, or storage, to run our things so we bought HUGE batteries.

The new batteries will not fit so we have to “modify” the current battery boxes. Once I dug into it, I found the wood in one box was rotten and had to be removed, no problem. The other box had to be opened up and reenforced for the larger battery (more pictures when I’m done). It’s actually going quite well:

We drove to RAE Battery in Connecticut to pick up our new batteries. We met the owner Roy Earley, very nice guy! Everyone was great to work with and everything was ready when we arrived, very refreshing. They loaded the batteries onto our trailer, we fastened them down and took off back to Maine:

Almost two feet long, 18 inches tall, 318 pounds each, 820 amp hours, that’s power!!!!!

Now we need the crane to come back to install them!
