Onset MA

Posted by on June 17, 2011

To backtrack a little, we left Block Island and about an hour motoring into nearly calm seas, the engine died. We suspected it may be clogged fuel filters from our previous attempt a couple days earlier. In our previous attempt we had bashed into six foot seas for over an hour, so every bit of sediment in the fuel tank had been churned up into the fuel. After an impromptu filter change we were back motoring. Pretty uneventful day until we turned into the channel at Onset. The East canal flood was still flowing so when we hooked a left to Onset we were swept “aside” just a bit. Proper application of throttle brought us back into the channel, the rest is history.

Here are some more pictures crossing from Block Island to Onset MA. Rhode Island Sound:

We came across this fish but never really figured out what exactly it was:

It was a pretty lousy day. It was nice to see the Cape Cod Canal:

After arriving at Onset and dropping the anchor, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset:

Onset harbor:

Of course we had to dinghy in to get water and fuel:

After that we were able to get into town, do laundry, get groceries, eat pizza and drink some beer!

Town dinghy dock:

Harbor Master’s Office:

Some shots of the town:

Then we found Marc Anthony’s Pizza Place, it was great!

The pizza was great, the beer was cold:

Once we had our fill we headed back to the boat:

Almost caught up. We departed Onset MA for Gloucester MA but decided to push through straight to Maine. We’ll fill in the details in the next day or two, but we made it safely to Maine this morning.
