Super day

Posted by on April 2, 2011

Bob arrived last night so the three of us went to the boat and hit it hard today. We bought a new stainless steel prop shaft and a Max Prop propeller so we had to fit those together. The instructions are pretty clear, the hub of the prop needs to fit the taper of the shaft with no interference from the key. We had to fit the hub to the shaft without the key, mark the position on the shaft, remove the hub, install the key and reinstall the hub to ensure proper fit.

We had to file the key just a bit for proper fit:

After fitting the prop to the shaft we needed to measure threads past the prop nut, max is one thread and there were at least six. We had to trim the shaft, something everyone enjoys is cutting into a brand new expensive prop shaft:

After the prop/shaft we moved on to the rudder packing. Before:

We cleaned up the corrosion, repacked, coated with Lanocoate and tightened it down. After:

Tanya rebuilt the engine intake strainer:

We could not avoid the bilge any longer, it had to be “cleaned”, more like de-sludged. The bilge is pretty nice now but we will clean it properly and paint it when we haul out later this year.

Will update more in a couple of days!
